Analysis of camerawork

As well as analysising different shots from an episode from Holby City, in class we analyised the camerawork from one scene. The first shot in this scene was a medium long shot of two nurses talking about a neurotic patient who was in the next room. The show was the taken from the doorway of the room the patient was in to show how close the nurses were to the patient they were talking about. The next shot that I analysed in this scene was of the nurse talking to the neurotic patient. It was a medium close up shot and showed the expression on the nurses face. This was important as the audience needed to see that all though the nurse was kind she was too busy to be dealing with small problems. The next shot was a mid shot of the patients boyle under her arm. This ensured the audience could see her problem however not make the audience look away from the screen. The next shot in this scene was a long shot of a doctor and boss walking and talking down a hospital hallway. The long shot was used to give them authority as they are more important than the nurses and also to show that they were not wearing uniform like most of the people who work at hospitals. The last shot I analysed was a master shot of the two nurses talking to the neurotic patient. This shot gave the audience a view from a 3rd person position and showed the audience how the nurses were trying to edge away from the patient who was annoying them.
